1 hour 25 into Alsace

Kaysersberg Christmas Market

Around thirty chalets in the courtyard of the arsenal, plus a farmers’ market. Small, handmade – and all the better for it.

Kaysersberg was once voted France's favourite village – and its Christmas market does the opposite of what you might expect: it does not grow, it stays small.

Around thirty wooden chalets in the courtyard of the old arsenal and in the passage behind the church of Sainte-Croix, plus a farmers' market on the town hall square with producers from the valley. No crush, no imported goods. Above it all, the castle ruins on the hill.

Worth knowing

In 2026 the market opens only on Advent weekends, Friday to Sunday. Come midweek and you will find a very beautiful but quiet village. That can be exactly what you want – you just need to know it beforehand.

Our tip

Walk the few minutes up to the castle before visiting the market. From up there you see the whole Weiss valley, and if you time it right the village is already lit while the sky is still bright.

Riquewihr in the morning, Kaysersberg in the evening

The two villages are ten minutes apart by car. Together they make a complete day – and by night you are back in the Black Forest.
